Gaining a Better Understanding: Family Leave Policy

The Foothills Presbytery Committee on Ministry (COM) developed guidelines to help congregations and pastors interpret and navigate a new provision for installed pastors which was added to the Book of Order in 2023*. The Foothills Presbytery Family Leave Policy was approved by COM in September and shared in the Commissioner’s Handbook for the November Presbytery Meeting.

The Committee on Ministry is hosting two meetings to answer questions from Elders and Ministers about this policy and options to explore when Family Leave is needed by pastors.

*The 225th General Assembly received and approved an overture about paid Family Leave which amends the Book of Order. The majority of Presbyteries approved the amendment, and it was added to the Book of Order in 2023. The Book of Order was updated to include this language in G-2.0804, Terms of Call.
