Position Overview

Location: Anderson, South Carolina
Hours: 20–30 hours per week
Contract: 6-month stated supply (renewable)

We are seeking a part-time minister (20–30 hours per week) to provide spiritual leadership, pastoral care, and organizational guidance. This role is central to nurturing our congregation’s faith, fostering community, and supporting our mission in the wider world.

Key Responsibilities

Worship Leadership

  • Prepare and lead worship services 3 Sundays per month(with flexibility for pulpit supply).
  • Deliver sermons that are progressive, inspiring, and grounded in scripture and justice themes.
  • Coordinate with the Worship Committee for music and liturgy planning.

Pastoral Care

  • Provide hospital and crisis visits, support during life transitions (grief, illness), and spiritual guidance.
  • Maintain regular office hours on-sitefor drop-in conversations and appointments.
  • Collaborate with or oversee a Congregational Care Teamto ensure consistent care for homebound members and those in need.
  • Work with a single point of contact for care coordination(could be the minister or a paid layperson) to organize meals, cards, and visits.

Community Building & Leadership

  • Follow up with visitors and encourage engagement in church life.
  • Support volunteer efforts and community outreach.
  • Attend and actively participate in Session meetings; moderate when appropriate.
  • Provide vision and leadership for sustaining and growing our progressive identity.

Qualifications

  • Ordained PC(USA) ministeror eligible for ordination; other denominations considered if aligned with our theology.
  • Strong commitment to progressive values, inclusiveness (including LGBTQ+), and Earth Care.
  • Experience in small church ministry
  • Skills in preaching, pastoral care, and organizational leadership.
  • Ability to build relationships, communicate effectively, and lead collaboratively.

Hours & Compensation

  • 20–30 hours per week, including Sundays and designated office hours.
  • Compensation commensurate with experience and Presbytery guidelines.

Contract

  • Initial 6-month stated supply contract, renewable based on mutual agreement.
