| VBS at St. Andrews Church |
|
Vacation Bible School in the summer can be lots of fun! Just ask the children at St. Andrews Church. This year their VBS theme was "Jerusalem Marketplace," and CLP Jeff Gilstrap really became a part of the Marketplace atmosphere. That's him in the Roman soldier uniform - the children thoroughly enjoyed his great acting job, and it made them very aware of what things were like in Jerusalem many years ago. |

Volunteers are needed in the Foothills Hispanic Ministry!
On Sunday evenings, ESL classes are taught at John Calvin Presbyterian Church. Positions are now open for an advanced class teacher, two teaching assistants/substitutes, and one or two childcare workers. Spanish language skills are not required.
The third Hispanic Health Fair will be held on Saturday, October 18, from 9:00 - 3:00 at John Calvin Presbyterian Church. They are looking for doctors, nurses, interpreters, and greeters who are interested in volunteering their time. Interpreters will be provided for all doctors and nurses providing care. This is a valuable ministry that reaches many of our Hispanic neighbors. Previous health fairs have each served around 300 individuals.
If you are interested in either of these ministry opportunities, please contact Jan Culpepper at jrculpepper@msn.com or (864) 415-1160.

GIVE ACT of 2008
GIVE Act of 2008 Supports Volunteerism
According to the South Carolina Association for Non Profit Organizations (SCANPO), the number of people who have been forced to stop volunteering because of the high cost of gasoline has been increasing. To address this issue, SCANPO has signed on to support and lobby for the passage of the GIVE Act of 2008. They are asking those who are concerned about this problem to reach out to our U.S. Senators urging them to quickly sign on as co-sponsors of the GIVE Act. Time is short because when Congress returned to DC following its August recess, they will be there only three weeks before they adjourn for the elections. More information is available online. |
| It's Not Too Late |
| Call Mary Morrison Tuesday, September 2, if you are interested in attending Raising Leaders/Changing Lives - an event to be held on Sunday, September 7, in the presbytery office. Learn to be a congregation that nurtures future leaders for God's Church. This is so important in helping young people sense a Christian identity and the call to ministry. |
