Presbyterian Communities Connections
As usual, Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina sent copies of the April issue of Community Connections to each church. However, to save on mailing costs, copies were addressed and sent out individually instead of all mailed together in one large envelope. Your church will receive 5 or 10 copies. Please place copies in an area where members of the church can pick them up to read.

Celebration of Church Ministries
To celebrate the rich variety of ministries going on across the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Presbyterians Today is featuring profiles of individual congregations. Is there something unique about your church? Does it have a long history? Unusual location? Creative worship? Is it actively engaged in a mission project? What stands out about your congregation? Please click here for more information about submitting your church for the magazine.

South Carolina Presbyterian Convocation

On May 29 and 30, the five South Carolina presbyteries will gather in Clinton for a Convocation on Friday evening with the Rev. Bruce Reyes-Chow, Moderator of the 218th General Assembly, preaching. Prior to the worship service, a picnic will be held on the lawn at Presbyterian College. Following the worship service, a reception will be held in the Thornwell Home Dining Room. On Saturday the five presbyteries will conduct their Stated Meetings in different locations on the campuses. Information, including registration material, has been distributed to all presbytery offices. If you would like to download any of this material, you may do so here.

This year, Trinity Sunday (June 7, 2009) is on the first Sunday of the month -- a time when many Presbyterian congregations celebrate the Lord's Supper. In your planning and preparation for worship on Trinity Sunday, consider the trinitarian shape of eucharistic prayer:
  • Thanksgiving
    to God the Father/Creator
  • Remembrance of Jesus Christ
  • Prayer for the gift of the Holy Spirit
The structure of the Great Thanksgiving might provide a helpful sermon idea or illustration. See the 1982 World Council of Churches paper "Baptism, Eucharist, and Ministry" for more on these theological themes in the sacrament of the Lord's Supper.

Also, if you haven't already seen it, check out this recent Presbyterian Outlook article by Eric Mount on "Sacraments on Radical Religious Rites."
