| FaithPoint Presbyterian Church
Holds First Gathering |
|
The first gathering of the new FaithPoint Presbyterian Church was held at the Hopkins Farm on Fork Shoals Rd. in west Simpsonville Tuesday, March 31. Twenty-five people, including five children, attended the meeting. Rob Klouw and Katherine Randall, organizing co-pastors, read the Pentecost story, presented their plan for creating a community of believers, and asked for help putting on a big event in the Long Creek Plantation sub-division April 25. The Long Creek Plantation event will be one of several held in neighborhoods to introduce people to the FaithPoint Church.
Those interested in helping form the new congregation will be meeting regularly in Bible fellowship gatherings. The group will decide when and how often to meet in coming days. The Bible fellowship gatherings will form a core group to launch the church with a full worship service beginning September 3 at the Greenville Tech Brashier campus on West Georgia Road, which is near the location of the future church.

| The Thoughtful Christian |
This month The Thoughtful Christian launched a special In the News study called "What is Sexting?" By definition it means sex-texting, or sending, receiving, or forwarding sexually suggestive photos via a text message on a cell phone or posting pictures on social networking sites such as Facebook or MySpace. Sexting was reported as early as 2005 but has only recently gained international attention. This study will provide parents, clergy, and teachers with a foundation for how to help teens make sexual decisions in day-to-day life. Here are a few other Thoughtful Christian studies that would work well as part of a series on teens and decision making in cyber space and in the real world: Parenting in a Text Messaging World (Parenting), Talking with your Child about Sex (Christian Living - Family Matters - Adult), What's my Child doing on the Internet? (Christian Living - General - Adult), Step Away from the Computer: Using Technology Wisely (Contemporary Issues - General - Youth), What's Happening to my Child? Adolescent Biology (Parenting). See these studies and more at The Thoughtful Christian.
Calvin Jubilee
"Celebrating 500 Years of Reformed Faith and Life"
The Office of Theology and Worship encourages Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) congregations to observe Sunday, July 12, 2009, as the 500th anniversary of John Calvin's birth (July 10, 1509).
An excellent set of liturgical resources is available to be downloaded here.
Naturally, this is a service of Word and Sacrament! John Calvin advocated weekly eucharist, though that hope wasn't fully realized in Geneva. If possible or appropriate in your congregation, plan now to celebrate the Lord's Supper on Sunday, July 12, 2009. |
